I read in a random blog or is it the same article posted by GS that the four rules that we as fellow humans or more specifically, Singaporeans, should abide by are mentioned as above.
Dun work. Cos work is largely defined as a repetitive exercise that one performs in exchange for certain monetary gains for survival. In short, it is a transaction. Hence, the moment you find yourself entrenched in that form of transacation, you are working, The reverse is true. The author then wrote,
"Work kills. The Japanese have a term Karoshi, which means death from overwork. That's the most dramatic form of how work can kill. But it can also kill you in more subtle ways. If you work, then day by day, bit by bit, your soul is chipped away, disintegrating until there'snothing left. A rock has been ground into sand and dust. There's a common misconception that work is necessary. You will meet people working at miserable jobs. They tell you they are making a living?. No, they're not. They're dying, frittering away their fast-extinguishing lives doing things which are, at best, meaninglessand, at worst, harmful.
People will tell you that work ennobles you, that work lends you a certain dignity. Work makes you free. The slogan "Arbeit macht frei" was placed at the entrances to a number of Nazi concentration camps. Utter nonsense.Do not waste the vast majority of your life doing something you hate so that you can spend the small remainder sliver of your life in modest comfort. You may never reach there anyway."
The author suggests us to play. Immerse in total playing. Play with your passion until the very action of playing produces value by itself. I interpret this by search for your passion. probe deep into the passion and finally, we will realise that the very passion that we held onto was valuable.
While the author suggests us to play and dun work,in essence, life should have been that way.People who likes to cut things up and unravel things layer by layer ends up as doctors anyway. People who likes to play with language ends up as journalist and lawyer. People who are rich in their visual expression ends up as actors.
Time to think abt what I like. How apt.
