ARMS RACE
Be it internship interview where I saw people use all sorts of props and all kinds of sugarcoating to embellish their seemingly peaceful history or to cover any gaps as if the interviewers are surgeons pinpointing their wounds. Yes, I admit that I am also one of those dragged in this inevitable machine where everyone tries to outshine and outrace, eventually forgetting and overlooking the real essence of the work or job nature. The motto for students or youngsters would read something like," As long as I win, it doesnt matter what I ve won". How true the statement is of course, still dependent on individual.
Coming to the final stage of the interview, I am constantly asking myself whether I am really keen on working there or just for the prestige or the vain thought of being branded as a scholar. I believe a scholarship in the civil sector is definitely more than money. It is like an invisible visa that really allows easier access to the more remoted and untouchable areas in the corporate hierachy. how true? I dunno. Its part hearsay, part truth I suppose.
Sometimes I envy the "Baby boomers" whom are generally the generation of our father and mother. They lived in an era when studies were generally not as highly emphasised as compared to the present era. Life was tougher for those without high education yet in a way, they are those who really worked their way with bare hands. I admire my dad who is really a handy man in many things. At 24, all i know is definitely less than wad my dad did.
Given the present stiff competition in the society, it is really hard to catch a breath. Before you know it,endless work has piled up, coupled with projects and other commitments. Think about it,it will be nice if time can stop at the age of 16. Haha. Studying then was really simpler. It sucks to know that my studying career will come to a permanent halt soon.....
