read numerous emails by my fellow track and field seniors about past memories in relation to
the tearing down of National Stadium.

A story from the HCJC A girls team. It was the year 2002. It was a fight between us and RJC. RJC was leading all the way until the final day and we were pretty close. It was the 4x100 event, the last event for the girls and it was a match of live and death. RJC was the hot favourite, we knew very well that we probably would not be able to make it, but everyone held on to our strong beliefs and the girls fought on. During the transition from the second to the third runner, the RJ team dropped their paton and instantly all of us jumped out of JOY hehee... The RJ team picked it up and continued the race, their last runner was fast and desperate. Their gap to us was closing up fast at the last 100m but we were still a mere 1m ahead of them at the finish line. We had won the A girls championship by 1m and by 1 point at the very last minute. That year was one of the few years where all of the divisions, C boys, B boys, A boys and A girls came in first. I do not know if such victory had repeated itself after my time, but it was definitedly a good year for us as me and others were able to end our track and field career on a high note.So all my juniors, I must thank all of you for keeping the Hwa Chong track and field spirit burning

Simply because of HCJC's poor support for the track and field team. To me, the peak of TCHS and HCJC was in 2002, when we won A, B and C div boys along with A div girls' title. After that, everything went downhill
After reading their email, it sent waves of nostalgia down me and the first thing that came into my mind was not about how HCJC grabbed her first double Champ in maiden history and how proud i was of the track team i captained last time.
I was only reminded of Lena. This girl was bubbly and had a very sweet and clear voice. I could still recalled her voice till date. This girl never failed to cheer and motivate us up. I could still remember the times when we went over to her place to conduct EXCO meetings but that was just in name. Ha... in name of going there to play. Play aside, Lena was really a responsible and capable leader i feel. She always make sure things go right and without weihao and her, things would have gone completely wrong for me and jiesi. I remembered the very day when she got her High Jump Gold medal, we went berserk and crazy like mad for her. But she was not overwhelmed by the medal. Her first few words to us were " i think it can help the girls team right". That moment was really touching. Could really feel how deep she felt for the team. Lena, though you are not with us, i guess your smile, your enchanting voice still remains etched in my heart. We will always, like we boasted last time," the best Exco in the WOrld"!
